It can be nerve-racking for parents and adults alike seeking an Autism assessment. We at ATIC are here to support you through the entire process from initial consultation, through the assessment process and in guiding you through our recommendations and next steps. We are here to help make your experience as comfortable as possible. We recommend firstly coming in for an initial consultation to determine if an assessment is indeed required.

What is Autism ?

Autism is a condition related to brain developmental which can cause a wide range of challenges on how a person may communicate and interact with others.

Signs and symptoms of Autism?

Symptoms vary widely, as we are all unique! typically there are indicators in early childhood which persist into adulthood. Although, many are diagnosed at childhood, this is not true for everyone. Many only notice traits as they get older. Ideally the earlier we identify the sooner we can begin to support this appropriately.

Parents when should I seek an expert opinion for my child?

There has been mixed guidelines throughout the years on when and how to approach this. We at ATIC believe in early intervention based on current research trends.

We do know that babies develop at their own pace. According, to Mayo Clinic USA, autism usually signals signs of delayed development before a child is aged 2 years. Signs of autism spectrum disorder often appear early in development when there are clear delays in language and social interactions.

It may be recommend developmental tests to identify if your child has delays in cognitive, language and social skills, if your child:
* Doesn’t respond with a smile or happy expression by 6 months
* Doesn’t mimic sounds or facial expressions by 9 months
* Doesn’t babble or coo by 12 months
* Doesn’t gesture — such as point or wave — by 14 months
* Doesn’t say single words by 16 months
* Doesn’t play “make-believe” or pretend by 18 months
* Doesn’t say two-word phrases by 24 months
* Loses language skills or social skills at any age

At ATIC we start off with our developmental tests at our Early Intervention and Child Development Wing, our assessments are carried out by our assessment specialists. We also look into related conditions to minimize potential of misdiagnosis. Our multidisciplinary approach and ATIC’s tailor made methodology takes all into consideration, from the point of assessment, identifying not only a persons challenges but also their strengths.

Assessment starts from 18 months onwards.
